Dreaded Dread-Locks

I never thought I'd see the day when I would have such insecurity of mind, and wind up with a head full of dread locks. But here I am, on the 18th of July 2012, staring at my horrifying self image- WITH DREADLOCKS! Mind you, not one ounce of this predicament came by my own consent, it was forced upon me by none other than mother nature herself. Here's how this whole unreal nightmare came about.
After 7 weeks of the laid-back maintenance of a head-full of braids (77 to be exact), It came time to take the things out. I started working on it Tuesday night, and by Friday morning I had 19 left to take out. After jumping into the lake, canoeing, swimming and running around all morning, I had my last braids taken out with the help of Angela, Carolyn, Courtney and Laura. It felt so good to have them out!!! -EXCEPT there was a slight problem: My hair was 2 strings of tangles.
I wasn't in the least bit concerned, until I washed my hair in the lake an hour later. I realized that the handfuls of conditioner I had put in my hair wasn't that helpful. So, I thought I'd just upgrade to the shower in the cottage instead of the lake-bath. To my horror, there was very little difference after I finished with the cottage shower!
For 2 hours I worked at the tangles. I had to do some scrambling to disguise the knots when we went out to the Blodgett's for supper. When I got home that night, I was starting to get worked up. With some wise counselling from not only mom and Angela, but Dad and David as well, they loaded up my tangles with conditioners, oils and any other lubricants we could get our hands on, wrapped it up, and went to bed.
After a prayerful night, I woke up in the morning to find my hair about the same as the night before. After breakfast, Angela and mom went straight to work with brushes, combs, spray water, conditioner and the like. At lunch time, I was pretty much a wreck- emotionally and not to mention in appearance. I tried showering again to wet my hair. It made it even worse. We went down to the lake, and I sat in the water while Angela and mom kept working. After more hours passed, Angela made up a hot olive oil in water with salt (to try and soften the HARD lake water) and I soaked my hair in that for a while. In the end, I couldn't even look at myself without bursting into tears. So here I am now, wishing I could tell you everything is fine now- but frankly I look like a freak! Anyways, now all I can do is laugh about it and PRAY that when I get home to PEI tomorrow evening, our soft water will work its magic, and my hair will be back to its usual self! So this is just something you can add to your prayer list if you feel exercised… I'll let you know how it turns out!

Friday night after hours of brushing.

That smirk didn't last for long....

Saturday Morning

Just when you think it can't get any worse..
Saturday night....

This stuff was supposed to work, but I hate to say it didn't  :(

Now I'm walking around with a towel on my head to shun the embarrassment of my predicament.

Everyday I'm Eatin-Well

Grub time!

One of the MANY things I enjoy when I visit here is the FOOD! Dave and Cathy are crazy good cooks! For example, here is the menu for Sunday Dinner:Roast pork, Hashbrown casserole, salad, fresh-from-the-oven rolls, corn, green beens and for dessert: Watermelon sherbert cake!
Doesn't this just look delectable?

Step away from the watermelon roll...
Is it good Joshua?

Message Chair

"A little lower, little lower, to the left a little- THERE. Ahhhh, what a feeling." I am sitting in the living room at the Procopio's estate, on the receiving end of an iMedic 380 message chair. It's the first time I was able to connect to the interweb since Wednesday- What a relaxing time it's been!
Wednesday we went over to the tent meeting in Hampton, NB, staying at my grandparents overnight. Bright and early, Thursday we were off, after getting a free MacDonald's coffee. The border was a breeze. The trip went by so fast. We only stopped twice, once in Augusta, Maine for lunch at Applebee's, and again in Kittery, Maine for some SHOPPING! I got a few things. From Kittery we went straight to the Procopio's cottage in Tilton, New Hampshire.
We spent the rest of Thursday, all of Friday, and most of the day Saturday relaxing with the various activities happening around. Swimming in the lake, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, jogging, dirtbiking, EATING (can't beat Italian cooking!!!!), reading, shopping, playing games and all kinds of American stuff. On Friday, after lunch, our outdoor activities were cut short by an impeccable downpouring of rain, thunder and lightening. And I'm not talking showers- I'm talking BUCKETS spilling from the sky! It was crazy! That was fine though, because we just moved all the fun inside!
This afternoon, when the rain started again, we took the opportunity to pack up the stuff, and get ready to head to their house. By the time we got everything sorted out, it was suppertime, and we headed to Danvers, Massachusetts.
This was my first time seeing their new house. It is the last house on the street, centre of the cal de sac. It's a picture perfect place, with a luscious assortment of greenery decorating the walkway and front lawn. A pool is around the back, sparkling with clear blue water. Can't wait to dive into it!
Calzone's and pizza from Sal's was our evening enticement. Boy, was it ever good! (By the way, Calzone's are like Panzarroti's. And, if you still don't know what I'm talking about, they are pizza dough folded over with sauce and meat and stuff inside. Excellent)
Hopefully, this post will be enough to hold you over until the next time I post (Don't get your hopes up, but I'll try my best), and hopefully I'll upload my pictures too.
Talk to Y'all later! Good night!
