Storm Day!

Today was my first storm day of the year! It was great to be able to sleep in for a few more hours.... until 11:40 actually! Haven't slept in that long for ages!
The grandparents from New Brunswick got storm-stayed, and it was nice to have a longer visit with them. Last night we had My grandmother's sister Arlene, and her husband Wilbert, along with Brody, Sharon, Jayne and Josie! We had a lovely supper, and a great visit! It's always a hoot with that crew around!

These Pictures here are from LAST Sunday evening when we had some of the family in!

Christmas Supper

Saturday night, a few days before Christmas, we had a community turkey supper. We had it at the Firehall in O'Leary, and everyone brought a bit of something to contribute to it. It went over really well! The food was scrumptious, lots of people showed up, and there were smiles all over peoples faces! Definitely a good idea to do again sometime!
Dad and I hand-chopped 10+ pounds of carrots! Talk about a monotonous task!

Mom's very own Hugs and Kisses cheesecake....

The story of the candy cane... very good idea!

The beautiful tables decorated by Wanda! Excellent job!

The desserts were limited as you can see... Not

Christmas Baking

Only 3 more days until Christmas!! I figured it was about time to do some holiday baking, since I hadn't made a cotton-picking thing as far as festive foods goes. I got on a cream cheese kick this year (throw fat-content to the wind!) and made a bunch of stuff with it such as Melt-in-your-mouth truffles (that WILL NOT even FREEZE, let alone HARDEN), cream cheese pops (with cookies in them), and a bunch of variations of these 2 recipes (like peanut butter, candy cane, coffee, vanilla etc.)! The holidays have just sort of snuck up on me this year (Age old excuse, I know, but its true!!). I just got the decorations up this week, and now that my baking is (pretty much) done, I need to turn my focus to the pile(s) of gifts sitting on my floor. I've been threatening the family for the past 3 days to stay out of my room "or else." Anyways, here are some pictures of some delicacies that I love....

By the way, I cannot take credit for baking all of the goodies in the pictures below. :)

King Asa

2 Chronicles 14-15

He started out so well. Certainly it was no easy task to carry out what King Asa did in the first years of his reign. Removing the altars of the foreign gods and the high places and breaking down the sacred pillars, surely would have got some opposition from the idol-serving people of Judah. But he didn't just stop with that. He further commanded the people of Judah to "seek the Lord God of their fathers and to observe the law and the commandment." (2 Chronicles 14:4)
For 10 years he enjoyed the peace and quiet in his land, which the Lord had blessed him with. The land of Judah took advantage of this time of rest and built up cities, and walls with towers, gates and bars. They boosted the numbers of their army, with mighty men of valour. (2 Chronicles 14:7) "So they built and prospered."
Serving the Lord was EASY- right?
Then the time of testing came.
The Ethiopians showed up, sporting an army 3 times the size of Judah, with chariots and all. Surely God was mistaken. Why would God allow them to build up their army, and make them fight their first battle against an army of a million men, PLUS chariots? All their hard work over the past 10 restful years, would just be destroyed if the Ethiopians got their hands on it... Some might have thought like this. But not King Asa! He cried out to the Lord his God and said, "Lord it is nothing for Thee to help, whether with many, or those who have no power; help us, O Lord our God, for we rest on Thee." (v.11)
That's just what God was waiting to hear! He had no problem leading HIS army (v.13) in victory against the Ethiopians.God was waiting for the chance to show His people that He ALONE can protect them. They can't rely on their own strength.
Before long, Judah won the battle, and plundered the cities, gathering much spoil. They ended up with MORE than they started with!
I am the first to admit that I often call upon God as a last-ditch-effort, instead of as my first response. It's easy to read about the people calling upon the Lord in dependance, but hard to live it out sometimes. But remember, the Lord loves to bless his people who depend and rely on Him. We can come to God anytime, with anything, 24/7!

"Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." Romans 10:13

Boston Conference Once Again

~ Reflection ~

Well-siree-bob
Can you believe it. Another day has passed, another month, and for me, another year has been added to my life. Ha ha, Yes, I can hear you laughing and saying "She thinks its hard turning 17, try turning 70!" We'll that may be true, but at 70 you've grown immune to birthdays. I'm not gonna complain, though. It's just that 16 is such an easy age to stay at. Maybe I'll just go out and buy a fake ID, but instead of making me a year older, make me a year younger. You don't hear of that very often!
Enough sorrowful babbling, and back to the topic at hand! I had a great time on the weekend, soaking up my last days of being 16. We were at the annual Sussex Conference. We were blessed with the presence of many gifted Brothers such as Walter Gustison, Albert Hull, James McClellend, Murray McCandless, David Hierlihy, Matthew Cain, Brody Thibodeau, John Meekin and Michael Penfold, from all the way over in England. I am ashamed to say that I didn't take many pictures... which could be for numerous reasons such as: 1) Lack of time  2) Lack of opportunity (not likely) 3) Lack of incentive 4) Lack of remebering. Anyways, you get my point. Not too much else is new.... EXCEPT THE FACT

I GET MY BRACES OFF IN TWO DAYS

Yep, thats about it. Well, I'll keep you updated (hopefully) on my mouth situation. Ya'll have a good day you hear!

Fall is in the Air

When school is underway for about a month, then comes October. I know, profound eh? Ya, I try. Anyways, my point of that deep thought there, was that October 2 is my BIRTHDAY! It wasn't actually a big highlight this year. The reason being? I DID NOT WANT TO TURN SEVENTEEN!!! It seems so old!! 16 is such a good age.... such a shame that I had to move on to 17. Oh well, not much I can do about it (unless I get a fake birth certificate or something). After a few weeks though, I got over my depression, and I was able to celebrate my 17th year with some good (OLD) friends!
