It was an emotional morning with Caleb leaving, Mark and Caleb cried most of the time, while Gwen and Elaine tried to offer comforting words. Yeah right. When Caleb's bags were all ready, and lugged out to the Condor, a few hugs were exchanged and good-byes given. With one last good-bye, we drove out the gate heading for East London. It was a good drive, with no major incidents along the way. We stopped at the mall for about 2 hours, looking around for the first bit, then meeting at Mugg & Bean for a nice big lunch. It was 12:45 when we headed for the 20 minute drive to the airport. We all went into the airport where Caleb checked in his bags, while the rest of us waited. I couldn't help but think that we'd be doing the exact same thing in less than a week, right in that same pace! I don't know where the time has gone here! It seems like just a week ago we were flying into the same airport! Crazy. When all his bags were checked in, at last it was time to say good bye. We each gave him a hug, while Mark settled with a (stiff) handshake. Men. There was no hanging around for Mark, and within 2 minutes we were on our way back to the car. We did some running around to a few stores, then at around 2:30 we started back to F.B. Once again it was a nice drive on the way back. The kids were happy to see us when we got to Ntoleni, they even ran to the end of the road to meet us as we drove in. We ran back into Fort Beaufort after a bit for Mark and Gwen to get a few things at the store, while me and Owen changed the sign at the Ikhaya Levangeli. When we got back home, we got the stuff ready for homemade pizza, then waited for them to cook. We dug in when they were finally ready, taking the occasional drink of Pinapple Fanta or Coke. These are the times that will be missed most come Friday when I'm heading back!

Hi Lydia
ReplyDeleteYou certainly have had some life experiences , and from what you have been writing -- I'm sure they will remain with you forever . Africa is a beautiful country -- and now that you have travelled so far, it does make the world seem smaller doesn't it?
We will all be glad to see you home again , so enjoy the last few days-- take care and home safely.
love margaret
